In times of national crisis over the coronavirus, every bit of good news helps. So let’s pause and be grateful that Disney+ — the streaming service that features all things Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel — will begin streaming the animated movie “Frozen 2” beginning on Sunday, March 15, three months before it was originally scheduled to drop on the service.
According to a company press release, Disney made the decision in order to offer families “some fun and joy during this challenging period.” (Those of us with highly active toddlers will gladly take it.)
“Frozen 2” is the follow-up to the global juggernaut “Frozen.” Although the film received less stellar reviews than the original, it nonetheless went on to gross nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and earn an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
Disney Plus is available for $6.99 a month, with a $12.99 per month option to bundle the service together with Hulu and ESPN+. Among the other recent releases now available on the service are “Toy Story 4” and the live-action versions of “The Lion King” and Aladdin.”

The streaming services all appear to be attuned to the coronavirus outbreak, at least by the evidence of Netflix, which recently added “Outbreak” — a heretofore mostly forgotten 1995 movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Rene Russo, about the outbreak of a deadly airborne virus. As of Friday evening, it was on the service’s list of the ten most-streamed films of the day.
