A British teen who hugged and tried to kiss Meghan Markle at his school — gushing that “she really is beautiful, innit” — has written an apology letter to Prince Harry, he revealed Monday.
“I hope you didn’t mind me cuddling your wife,” Aker Okoye, 16, wrote to the Duke of Sussex about the headline-grabbing moment as he joined the duchess onstage Friday at his east London school.
The schoolboy called the Duchess of Sussex “truly inspirational” in the letter, which he shared with The Sun, telling Harry, “I hope to meet you one day.”
“Good luck for the future,” Okoye told the prince of his future royal-free life, signing off, “With kind regards, Aker.”
Okoye laughed about his letter Monday during a TV appearance on “Good Morning Britain,” saying he penned it because he “didn’t wanna cause any more controversy.”
“If I’m dead in the next six months we know who sent the hit out. So I thought, ‘Ooh let me cover myself,'” he joked of his decision to drop Harry a line.
Okoye joined his royal crush onstage when she made a surprise appearance at Robert Clack School in east London and called for a “brave” volunteer to discuss International Women’s Day.
The room erupted when Okoye appeared to kiss the duchess’s cheek — with her jokingly wagging her finger at him — but a video from a different angle suggests he never made contact. His expression made it clear that he could not believe his luck when he got a big, warm hug at the end.
Okoye called it “one of those moments that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”
“She’s more than a pretty face, she actually is an amazing person — she’s strong, committed and really inspirational,” he told the TV station of the Megxiting royal. “I felt very privileged to be in her presence.”
Interviewer Piers Morgan teased the teen over his use of the British slang for “isn’t it,” suggesting he should try to trademark the phrase.
“You’re a bright boy, innit,” Morgan told him.
