'Star Wars' fan loses his mind at cellphone users at screening - New York Post

Don’t mess with a “true ‘Star Wars’ fan” — or you might feel the Force of his fist.

Joe Bond and his wife — on their first “date night” after the birth of their second child — were at a 7:30 p.m. screening of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” Thursday at Canada’s Scotiabank Vancouver Theatre when they spotted a man “aggressively” asking staff how to find his seat.

Bond told Global News he had a bad feeling when the man “lost it” on another moviegoer who whipped out their cellphone to film the opening credits.

That’s when the father of two felt his own phone vibrating in his pocket.

“I thought I was getting a phone call from our baby sitter,” said Bond. “It was the first time my wife and I had been on a date with both our kids being looked after, so I pulled out my phone really discreetly to see if it was the baby sitter calling. It wasn’t, so I put it back.”

Too late. The still-unidentified man, clad in a button-down shirt and tie, promptly turned to the dark side in footage captured by Viral Hog.

“I am a real ‘Star Wars’ fan!” he screamed indignantly, punctuating his super fandom with some fervent finger-pointing.

“Turn your phones off! Turn your phones off!” he hollered, whipping out his own cellphone and waving it at his chorus of hecklers. “Use your f - - king heads! Welcome to the 21st century! I waited a goddamned year to see this so some a - - hole can turn his phone on next to me?!”

Bond told Global News, “I told him to calm down, and he didn’t calm down — and then he hit me in the face. There was a lot of people filming the situation because it was pretty hilarious.”

The alleged punch wasn’t captured in the resulting viral videos, but the crowd can be heard chanting “Out! Out! Out!” as staffers escort the foul-mouthed fan out of the theater.

Vancouver police confirmed they were called to the theater around 8 p.m. to handle an “unprovoked assault,” but were unable to apprehend the alleged assailant. They are now reviewing security-cam footage.

Go figure — the actions of a guy who was worried about having his personal viewing experience disrupted ended up altering everyone else’s night.

“Luckily, the Force was strong with the cineplex team who ended up rewinding the film for the remaining guests,” said Scotiabank spokeswoman Sarah Van Lange in an emailed statement. “They got a round of applause out of appreciation from the fans!”

This is the latest in a string of incidents pulling focus from director J.J. Abrams’ new entry in the epic sci-fi franchise. Earlier this week, there were multiple reports of fans suffering seizures at “Rise of Skywalker” screenings, and Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” actor Jake Cannavale raised eyebrows by declaring it  to be the “worst Star Wars movie. An absolute f - - king failure.”
