Jennifer Lopez Didn't Get Nominated for an Oscar and Twitter's Not Having It - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

People are sharing their frustration on Twitter that Jennifer Lopez didn’t receive a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her performance in Hustlers as Ramona Vega following the announcement of Academy Award nominees on Jan. 13, 2020. 

Lopez, who is currently rehearsing for her Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira, woke up Oscars morning without a nomination despite the positive reception her Hustlers performance has received from both fans and critics since the film hit theaters in Sept. 2019.

In fact, almost immediately after Hustlers premiered, talk of an Oscar nomination for J. Lo began. It turns out the Oscar buzz didn’t come to fruition for the multihyphenate and Twitter is in an uproar. Keep reading to see what people have been saying about J. Lo’s Oscar snub ahead.

‘Jennifer Lopez deserved to win this thing’

Hashtags for the Oscars — #OscarNoms and #Oscars — are littered with comments about J. Lo getting passed up for a nomination. 

“Y’all forgot about Jennifer Lopez you monsters!#OscarNoms,” Candice Frederick, film and TV journalist wrote.  

Film critic, Clayton Davis, tweeted: “Jennifer Lopez snubbed at the #OscarNoms and I heard the screams of millions of fans. It was a good run J. Lo!” 

Joey Nolfi, of Entertainment Weekly, who famously encouraged an entire flight of people to watch Hustlers, responded to the news with, “NO JENNIFER LOPEZ ARE YOU KIDDING ME #Oscars.”

Yet another person expressed their shock about Lopez not being included in the list of nominees by saying, “Wow…can’t believe Jennifer Lopez was snubbed. She legitimately deserved to win this thing. #OscarNoms.” 

Hashtag ‘justiceforjlo’ began trending on Twitter

Shortly after the Oscar nominees were announced, fans of J. Lo’s were quick to start a campaign on Twitter praising the actress’s performance with the hashtag “justiceforjlo.” It didn’t take long for the hashtag to start trending in the U.S. with people saying the 50-year-old should’ve received a nomination for her performance.

“J. Lo is an amazing actress. She deserves that win just like she did in 1998. Her acting ability in Hustlers and Selena was AMAZING IN EVERY WAY,” one person tweeted.

“The academy has never liked JLO, same happened with her performance in Selena,” another person said.

Another Twitter user referenced not only her performance in Selena but Lopez’s roles in other films.

“Am is surprised @TheAcademy snubbed @JLo? No, they have always snubbed her throughout her entire career from her small scene stealing performance in Mi Familia to Selena and Out of Sight, El Cantante & now Hustlers.”

Many thought this would be J. Lo’s year and for good reason. The actress has received well-deserved praise for her performance in Hustlers alongside her costars Lili Reinhart, Cardi B, Constance Wu, and Lizzo. But Lopez lost to Laura Dern at the Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress — her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, called her a champion in a sweet Instagram post after the loss — and lost yet again at the Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 12.
