They don’t care that, with our cleaner furloughed, the house is grubbier, dustier and, worst, stickier. A cleaning rota is rejected. I experiment with nagging and shouting. A few tasks are sloppily executed. I’m told my standards are too high. “Why can’t windows be streaky?”
