Our list of smart gadgets could make life super easy
In the absence of house help during the lockdown period, most of us took up the responsibility of managing domestic chores. This situation is unlikely to change as we are bound to follow social distancing norms in the post-COVID-19 world as well. Fortunately, we can bank on technology and gadgets to ease this burden. Gadgets that help us with such tasks with minimal involvement on our part are likely to be in high demand. Most of these gadgets are also environment-friendly as they save on a precious resources like water. Here are eight such gadgets.
iRobot Roomba
The Roomba helps with the most tedious chore—cleaning the house. The robotic vacuum cleaner is packed with sensors that not only map a room, but also sense the kind of dirt in their path. It will clean each corner of a room and return to its charging dock when the chore is complete. You can further use a smartphone app to set up specific cleaning times, the rooms that need to be cleaned, and much more.
Kent Vegetable & Fruit Disinfectant
These days we rigorously clean and sanitise everything including fruits, vegetables and meat. Instead of cleaning them individually by hand, why not use a gadget? Kent’s Vegetable & Fruit Disinfectant uses a chemical-free ozone technology to remove chemicals, pesticides, bacteria and other germs before consumption. Simply add the veggies or meat in a bowl filled with water, and let the pipe connected to the gadget disinfect your food. You can choose either a table-top or wall-mounted style.
Wonderchef Nutri-Pot
While many of us have become quarantine chefs, cooking is still a chore. You can however make it relatively hassle-free by investing in a smart cooker. Wonderchef’s Nutri-Pot is one such gadget that can cook a variety of meals with just a touch of a button. You can also use a dedicated smartphone app to programme when to begin cooking. Nutri-Pot is also compatible with Amazon’s Alexa, which can help in the cooking process by dictating recipes.
Smart Garden
Fresh veggies and herbs are essential for our immunity and nothing beats the joy of growing them on your own. The lack of space and time however makes it difficult for everyone to indulge in such a project. But that is something Smart Garden is trying to change. These fully automated gardens do all the hard work, leaving you to enjoy fresh vegetables and herbs like tomato, basil, pepper and more. All you need to do is buy a Smart Garden along with plant pods, plug it into a socket, and fill the tank with water. The gadget then makes sure these pods have the right amount of water, light and nutrients for growth. The portable size also means you can keep these gardens in any part of your room.
Voltas Beko Dishwasher
Unlike washing machines, dishwashers haven’t quite become an essential home appliance yet, in India. But if you are tired of doing the dishes at the end of each day, then this gadget is a lifesaver. Apart from making life easy, there are other benefits as well such as saving water. Voltas Beko’s range of dishwashers are specially designed for Indian kitchens with built-in technology that senses the dishes and adjusts water pressure. A smartphone app also gives you information on how the dishwasher is cleaning all the dishes.
Barsys 2.0
Even after the lockdown ends, we won’t be hitting the local pubs anytime soon. While most drinks are available at local shops, you can’t buy cocktails. Making a cocktail requires a seasoned bartender…or simply an automated cocktail-making machine! Barsys 2.0 promises to create the perfect drink at the touch of a button. First, select your preferred cocktail from the smartphone app. Then the gadget does all the work using Artificial Intelligence. It selects the right amount of liquor and mixer to whip up that perfect cocktail for you.
Forme
Like pubs, we are also unlikely to hit a public gym as soon as the lockdown lifts. In the post-COVID-19 world most of us will prefer working out at home. But a lack of space means we won’t be able to buy and use complex gymming equipment. To solve this issue, Swiss virtuoso Yves Béhar has come up with an all-in-one strength training studio called Forme. When not in use, it looks like a sleek mirror. But when you are ready to work out, two hidden handles move out for anaerobic exercises.
Pura-Case
A wardrobe purifier could soon become an essential gadget. With that in mind, Italian design firm Carlo Ratti Associati conceptualised Pura-Case. It is essentially a battery-powered portable wardrobe purifier that uses ozone to remove bacteria and viruses from one’s clothes and fabrics. All this is done without using water. It is currently in the prototype phase, but the idea is to replace large-sized sanitation devices used in hospitals. Its compact size also means that Pura-Case can easily find its way into most home wardrobes.
