Covid-19 pandemic is showing no signs of slowing down, but India is opening up. People are stepping out more often to go to work, shopping and even meeting friends. The opening of metro services is a clear indication that life is slowly returning to normal. While hand sanitizers and masks have become a part of our lives, there are many gadgets in the market that claim to kill the coronavirus. Here are some of the companies that claim to prevent surface transmission of Covid-19 by killing the virus. (Disclaimer - ET Digital has not tested any of the products mentioned in this article and cannot vouch for its efficacy) The first thing we learned about coronavirus is that it is highly contagious and that it could survive on any surface for a period of time. CoronaOven was developed from the same fear by the Bengaluru-based startup Log9's co-founders Akshay Singhal and Pankaj Sharma. The CoronaOven can disinfect any item, including masks, hospital PPE, tools and groceries. The company claims that the device can kill the virus in less than 10 minutes on any surface. People can sterilize their groceries, utensils, water bottles, other home appliances and accessories. CoronaOven is compatible with solid surfaces of plastic, metal, leather and fabric. (Text: Garima Bora) A Gurgaon-based tech startup Arista Vault has come up with a Shuddhi-Box. While Covid-19 has ensured that the world follows social distancing, the virus spreads through gadgets, mobiles and masks. A subset of the Ministry of Electronics and Information (Meity); Software Technology Park of India (STPI), supported the tech startup to develop this equipment that sterilizes mobiles, banknotes, wallets, ear pods, pens, etc by UV-C technique. IoTfy has come up with IoT and multi-focal UVC technology that will help food-tech companies, online brands and delivery companies to make the home delivery of food, products, and packages Corona-safe, through disinfected delivery bags. Using this technology, the delivery agent can also begin the disinfection process while he is on the way to delivering the parcel. The multi-focal UVC technology used to disinfect the package in the delivery bags is app-operated and the sterilisation process can be initiated by the user at the single click of the "Start UV Disinfection" button. It can be used at the end of the delivery partner picking up the online order while it is on its way to be delivered. The process is completely touchless and ensures that deliveries received by the end user are safe. Keeping this in mind, Kone has come up with three products. Its Elevator Remote Call Feature lets users call an elevator using WhatsApp and removes the need to touch buttons or displays. Physical distancing elevator floor stickers and elevator full load limit adjustment also ensure less crowding. The company's Elevator Air Purifier will use advanced photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) process developed by NASA for air control on spaceships- to improve air quality in the elevators by removing most of the potential pollutants, like bacteria, viruses, dust and odours, in the air. Kone's Handrail Sanitizer uses ultraviolet light to disinfect escalator handrails. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation helps reduce the reproduction of bacteria and viruses. Tired of using sanitisers for car keys, wallets, money, or smartphones every time you step in or out of your vehicle? Just place everything inside this UV sterilizer box created by The Messy Corner and relax. This UV sterilizer claims to kill 99.9% of germs that live on the surface of your phones, earphones, wallets, keys, and other daily accessories and gadgets in three minutes. This also doubles up as a wireless charger and can be hooked to the 12v charging port in your car. Plug in the device, open the lid and put your phone and other accessories inside, close the lid and press the button. There will be a beep which marks the completion of the sterilization process. Vehant Technologies and International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad have developed KritiScan UV Baggage Disinfection System for hotels, commercial and private complexes, airports, terminals and railway stations for the disinfection of baggage. The KritiScan UV system automatically disinfects baggage as they are being transported from the reclaim area back to the divest station. The UV-C lights pose no exposure risk to staff or passengers and can be installed easily. This baggage disinfecting system has a motorized conveyor to guide all sort of baggage into the disinfection tunnel, which uses short-wavelength ultraviolet light to kill the microbes and viruses. It has an eight second disinfection time . Developed with technical consultancy from IIT-Mumbai and Made in India, KritiScan UV comes with Ergonomic design with safety features to prevent UVC coming out of the tunnel.
