Gadget Films Production In Los Alamos March 9-16 - Los Alamos Daily Post

COUNTY News:

NBC Universal Pictures “Gadget Films” will be filming March 9-16 in Los Alamos for an upcoming feature.

The production will be filming at a variety of locations across town, with minimal impacts to the public.

Production locations include Fuller Lodge, Canyon Complex, Los Alamos Airport, Oppenheimer House, the United Church, Women’s Army Corp (WAC) Building and Dot Grant Trail.

The public should expect to see activities related to the production, including intermittent traffic control, basecamp and parking operations, tents and set dressing, equipment related to filming and set security.

Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets and LAPD and Southwest Safety Flaggers will be providing intermittent traffic control at the following times and locations:

  • March 11 – Range Road & Dot Trailhead;
  • March 9, 10, 14 – The area surrounding the Women’s Army Corp (WAC) Building, including Spruce, Ponderosa, Peach, 16th and 18th streets, and N. Sage and S. Sage loops;
  • March 9, 10, 15, 16 – The area surrounding Fuller Lodge, including Central Avenue, Bathtub Row, Main Street and Central Park Square, 15th, 20th and 19th streets, and the Mesa Public Library driveway.
  • March 15 – Bathtub Row

Detours will be in place as needed. The public is asked to seek alternate routes on these dates to avoid delays and creating congestion in the area.

Notification fliers have been delivered to residences within 3-5 blocks of film operations. Noise is limited to power generators, vehicles traveling to and from locations, and the low din of crews communicating at the base camp and staging areas.

Although this does not warrant a noise permit, the County has granted a waiver to allow the production to conduct film activities until 11 p.m. at some locations.

The Los Alamos Film Office and staff from nearly all County departments have worked closely with the production since November to ensure filming activities follow all County ordinances and to facilitate coordination within the community. Businesses and residents are also providing parking lots and access for film vehicles, tents, trucks and equipment.

“I’m so proud to represent this film-friendly town,” Film Office Liaison Kelly Stewart said. “Our community has a reputation within the New Mexico film industry for making our town assets available for filming and letting the production, crew and actors do their job. And this picture is near and dear to the heart of this community.”

The production began casting for approximately 450 background talent (a.k.a., extras) in late January and early February. Hundreds of Los Alamos locals have already made their film debut at the Abiquiu location, and more will be participating over the next two weeks in hopes of catching a glimpse of themselves on the big screen once the film is released.

“We look forward to working in your community and will strive to make this a pleasant and professional experience for all,” Key Assistant Location Manager TC Townsen said.
