Taipei, Sept. 13 (CNA) The new iPhone 15 series will be available for preorder in Taiwan on Friday and people will be able to purchase the new devices on Sept. 22, according to Apple Inc.
On Tuesday U.S. time, Apple unveiled four new iPhone models: the 6.1-inch iPhone 15, the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max.
On its website, Apple announced people in Taiwan will be able to preorder the newiPhone from 8 p.m. Friday.
The standard iPhone 15 has a starting price tag of NT$29,900 (US$935), NT$2,000 more than its predecessor, the iPhone 14, while the bigger standard iPhone 15 Plus will cost NT$32,900 or higher, a NT$1,000 hike from the iPhone 14 Plus.
The flagship iPhone 15 Pro will be priced from NT$36,900, NT$2,000 higher than the iPhone 14 Pro, while the high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a starting price tag of NT$44,900, also NT$2,000 higher than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro Max with 1TB storage has been priced at NT$58,900 -- the most expensive iPhone ever.
The iPhone 15 models will be more expensive in Taiwan amid a strong U.S. dollar against the Taiwan dollar.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available in blue, black, yellow, green and pink, and both models will have the "Dynamic Island," an interface feature at the top of the screen that gives users a new way to see notifications and interact with apps.
The feature was first introduced to the previous flagship iPhone 14 Pro models last September.
The standard iPhone 15 models will be equipped with an improved camera system which allows for greater optical zoom and a 48-megapixel main camera sensor, up from 12-megapixel.
The iPhone 15 Pro models, which will also have the Dynamic Island feature, will be available in black, dark blue, dark and light gray, and will have a titanium frame, replacing the stainless steel that has been used since the iPhone X.
The iPhone 15 Pro models will have three cameras, similar to previous pro models, as well as the 48-megapixel main camera sensor, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max camera will have several additional new features, including 5x optical zoom.
The new flagship models will be powered by the latest A17 Pro GPU, the first Apple chip made using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC)'s advanced 3-nanometer process. The new six-core GPU is about 20 percent faster than its predecessor, the A16 Bionic.
Taiwan's major telecom operators will join in on the presale, and the gadgets are expected to hit their store shelves on Sept. 22.
Taiwan Mobile Co., one of the leading Taiwanese telecom operators, has predicted that sales of the new iPhones in Taiwan will be at least 10 percent higher than sales of the then-new iPhone 14 models last year.
Tony Lin (林東閔), Taiwan Mobile's chief business officer, said he was upbeat as the iPhone 15 models have the Dynamic Island feature, which is expected to lead many local "iPhone fans" to replace their old iPhones.
